Summer 2011

Thank you for supporting Wish for Haiti over the last several years.  Please know that your continued generosity has made a tremendous difference in the lives of Haitian children.   With your help Wish for Haiti was able to support the children of House of Children of the Lack through August of 2010.   After the earthquake the children received three meals a day, they had beds to sleep in, a roof over their heads and an education that was second to none by Haitian standards.

We worked hard and struggled to try to rebuild for them, but issues surrounding land ownership and facility management were so complicated and serious as to make the building of a new facility imprudent.  Other donors are currently contributing to the House of the Children of the Lack and it is our hope that Wish for Haiti will be able to help support these children well into the future.

Moving forward, Wish for Haiti is now able to make a difference for more children in this desperately needy country.   Wish for Haiti recently funded the building of a cafeteria with two separate kitchens, industrial size stoves and sinks and running water.  Five-hundred-and-thirty Haitian school children now receive what is, in most instances, their only meal of the day in a clean and safe environment.

The new cafeteria project is located in a community west of Port au Prince, where many families and children sought refuge after the earthquake.

As you know, the spread of cholera became a significant problem in Haiti in October of 2010.  Cholera was further exacerbated in this particular area because of the unsanitary conditions in which the children were eating.  The threat of the horrifying disease has been significantly reduced for these children with your help.  The positive affects of your contributions were also seen in the employment of nearly fifty Haitians during the building of the cafeteria.

We are now in various stages of consideration of several additional worthy projects of support and enrichment for children that we hope to tell you about soon.

Our work continues to help Haiti’s source of hope – its children.  We send this with our greatest appreciation to all of you!

FALL 2010

The children from the House of Children of the Lack returned from Ouanaminthe late this summer to be again with Father Bien-aime in Port-au-Prince. They are doing well and attending school in the mountain community of Tapio. Thanks to the generous donations of St. Matthew’s Church in Newport Beach, California, the children will soon be moving to a new home in Port-au-Prince.

We are grateful to Danita’s Children and the Hope for Haiti Children’s Center in Ouanaminthe for providing an interim home for the children during the most horrible months after the earthquake.

It was your immediate and generous donations to Wish for Haiti that allowed us, through Danita’s Children, to provide food, shelter, healthcare and education immediately and for months after the disaster. Thank you.

Because of your support and with your encouragement, Wish for Haiti is continuing its mission to provide for and to nourish destitute and orphaned children in Haiti.  Wish for Haiti is working diligently to determine the best ways to help and to responsibly invest in the children of Haiti since the earthquake.  The needs of these children were great before and are even greater today.  Consequently, our work and your donations are more important than ever. You can be assured that 100% of donations go directly to serving Haitian children.

With our sincere thanks,

The Wish for Haiti Team
